Jim Hofheimer focuses his expertise on defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans, foundations and endowments, as well as select high net worth individuals. Before joining Toroso, Jim was with Rothschild as Vice President, Senior Institutional Consultant and Corporate Retirement Consultant. Previously, he was at Salomon Brothers, initially on the institutional desk and later growing the firm’s futures operation into one of the largest at the Chicago Board of Trade. Following Salomon Brothers he founded Hofheimer Commodities before joining Morgan Stanley in 1998.
Jim is a graduate of the Certified Investment Management Analyst program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, the Accredited Investment Fiduciary program at the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh, a Certified Retirement Planning Specialist, and has an MBA degree from the J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. Jim is also a past member of the Board of Directors of the Chicago Board of Trade, Home Federal Bank, Highland Park Hospital, Blythedale Children’s Hospital and a current member of the Executive Board of The Forward Association, and a chairperson of FINRA Dispute Resolution.
Senior Registered Associate
Sandra Lake is a senior registered associate with Toroso Advisors. She is responsible for various aspects of client service, administrative and operational functions. Sandra has been working with Jim for more than 7 years.
She previously worked in the wealth management office for two wealthy families. In addition, she worked as a registered associate at Smith Barney and Morgan Stanley for 9 years.
She is a graduate of the University of Alaska, Anchorage with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.
She is Series 7, 63 and 65 licensed
Juan Carlos Avila
Juan is Managing Partner at Toroso Investments, LLC, a registered investment advisory firm committed to providing its clients with strategies that allow them to express their economic point of view, consistent with their risk tolerance and time horizon, through core asset allocation and income strategies that are intended to perform well in all economic climates. Juan provides investment advisory and retirement plan advisory services to clients, which include high net worth individuals, business owners, public and private corporations, public sector entities, and not-for-profit entities and foundations.
Juan has 25 years of financial service industry experience. Prior to joining Toroso, he spent 3 years as a Senior Vice President with Mesirow Financial where he co-led an investment advisory practice. Prior to joining Mesirow Financial, Juan spent 19 years at Merrill Lynch where he was a Senior Financial Advisor, Vice President, with the Private Client Group.
Juan serves as Trustee for the Policeman’s Annuity & Benefit Fund of Chicago, Board Chair for the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement (HACE) and as a Trustee for National Louis University. He received his bachelor of science degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and his masters in business administration degree from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management.
Juan received the 2016 Servant Leadership Award from the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement (HACE). In 2014 Juan was named to Negocios Now “Who’s Who in Hispanic Chicago” inaugural edition and recognized as the Chicago State University Latino Resource Center Corporate Citizen Honoree. In 2011 he earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) professional designation. That same year Chicago United recognized Juan as its Most Valuable Partner and the Chicago Latino Network voted Juan the Latino Professional of the Year. Juan was named one of Chicago Magazine’s “Five Star Wealth Managers” for 2014, 2012, 2011 and 2010.
Olga is Managing Partner at TOROSO Investments, LLC, a registered investment advisor firm. Olga provides investment advisory and retirement plan advisory services to clients that include: high net worth individuals, business owners, public and private corporations, public sector entities, and not-for-profit entities and foundations. Olga holds the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) professional designation from Fiduciary 360, and is able to effectively implement a prudent investment process for all of her clients.
Olga has 18 years of financial services experience. Prior to joining TOROSO Investments, she was a Senior Vice President at Mesirow Financial co-leading an investment advisory practice where she provided culturally-relevant financial services. Before that, Olga was at JPMorgan Chase and Thomson Reuters.
Olga has received national recognition for her professional work as a retirement plan advisor as related to helping the Latino community/workforce become retirement ready. She advocates on the community’s behalf and guides plan vendors to better serve it. Olga is frequently called upon by some of the fastest growing businesses and policymakers to provide her unique perspective.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel appointed Olga to The Metropolitan Pier & Exposition Authority Board. She serves on the IL State Treasurer’s Advisory Council; The Metropolitan Planning Council Board of Governors and its investment committee; the finance committee for Frances Xavier Warde School; a member of The Rotary Club of Chicago; and, a member of New America Alliance’s American Latina Leadership Caucus (100 influential Latinas across sectors in the U.S.). She previously served on The Chicago Plan Commission, and as treasurer for the Chicago Cook Partnership Workforce Investment Board.
Over 20 years experience in financial services primarily serving 401(k) and retirement plans at his own RIA firm, BenefitStreet, and Fidelity. Leads Toroso’s northeast 401(k) advisory practice specializing open-architecture and fiduciary services.
John is an investment advisor on Qualified Retirement Plans & Individuals. Before joining Toroso, he had created and operated an RIA Firm that accounted for the needs of the plan sponsor and always put the participants first, while focusing entirely on the service of Qualified Retirement Plans. There, he achieved an average revenue growth rate of 20% per year.
Previously, he was a Sales Executive at BenefitStreet, where he was responsible for establishing relationships with RIAs, Accountants, Attorneys, and payroll companies that marketed qualified retirement plans to their clientele. He closed $20 million dollars in qualified retirement plan assets and achieved a close rate of 90%
Throughout his career that spans over two decades, John lead and implemented a variety of retirement plans and portfolios, at world renowned retirement providers Fidelity Investments and Automatic Data Processing.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and is Licensed in Series 65.
Extensive experience in the asset management business. Masters degree in Finance from Washington University in St. Louis. Manages the Global Dynamic Multi-Asset Strategy and provides ETF research and mutual fund research to the investment team.
David is the Portfolio Manager of Toroso Advisors. Before joining Toroso, he was Vice President & Portfolio Strategist at Ladenburg Thalmann Asset Management (LTAM), where he researched, analyzed, and recommended Exchange Traded Fund (ETF), Mutual Fund (MF), Money Manager, and Hedge Fund investments for the LAMP model portfolios and customized accounts. He was part of the team that raised assets under management from approximately $75MM to over $1.6 Billion in just over six years for the Ladenburg Asset Management Program (LAMP), Ladenburg Thalmann Investment Consulting Services (ICS), and the Ladenburg Thalmann 401(k), which service over 2700 advisors.
Previously, he held positions in Wealth Management, Fixed Income and Securities trading in world leading organizations such as Morgan Stanley, Bear Stearns, AIM Securities and Smith Barney.
He holds a Master of Science in Finance from the Washington University Olin School of Business and a Bachelors of Science in Applied Mathematics, Finance and Economics from the Washington University College of Arts & Sciences. He holds the Series 7 and Series 66.
Managing Partner & CEO
Over 15 years of experience in financial services and management responsibilities, focused on growth initiatives, product launches, and sales management. He also has direct experience with startup companies and corporate build outs. Responsible for Toroso’s key initiatives and strategic relationships.
Guillermo is CEO of Toroso Investments and Tidal Growth Consultants. Prior to Toroso, Guillermo led the sales and business development efforts at Global X Funds helping the company reach approximately US$4 billion in AUM. Previously, he was the founder and managing partner of two venture capital firms (MC Capital and GT Capital) dedicated to the incubation and growth of start-ups in the US and Latam. Prior to that, he was founder and CEO of a pioneer food distributor in the US. Guillermo began his career in the area of M&A investment banking with Bankers Trust & Deutsche Bank. He has a degree in Business Administration from CUNEF (top finance college in Spain) and holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University) in Chicago.

30 years of 401(k) and financial services experience with Buck Consultants, Lincoln Financial, and Avatar. Developed and launched mutual funds, collective trusts of ETFs, 529 plans, and multi-manager 401(k) platforms. Responsible for all operational and financial aspects of the company.
Dan is Co-Founder and Chief Financial Officer of Toroso Investments and Tidal Growth Consultants. Previously, he was Chief Marketing Officer at Avatar Associates in New York City where Dan lead the business development efforts as Avatar grew assets in managed portfolios of ETFs to represent over 80% of the Firm’s assets under management. Previously, he headed the marketing and product development efforts at Delaware Investments in Philadelphia. Dan has served on a national industry board and heads a non-profit educational foundation. He started his career in Chicago, first with BMO Harris and then as a partner at Buck Consultants, serving large pension and retirement programs. Dan holds a BS degree in Accountancy from the University of Illinois, Champaign Urbana.

15 years experience in the asset management business.Prior experience included head of investments at Global X Management (a provider of ETFs), and business development, investment strategy, and strategic initiatives at Horizon Kinetics. Responsible for all investment management, research, and trading.
Michael is Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Toroso Investments and Tidal Growth Consultants. His most recent position was Head of Investments at Global X Funds where he provided portfolio optimization services to institutional clients. Previously he was Senior Vice President at Horizon Kinetics where his responsibilities included new business development, investment strategy, client and strategic initiatives. Michael was instrumental in the establishment of multiple strategic investments and partnerships related to ETFs, Exchanges and Indexation. In 2014, Michael was chosen as one the ETF.COM All Stars for his research and is often quoted as an ETF expert in publications such as Reuters and Barron’s. Michael Venuto studied Philosophy and Religion at NC State University and is an avid Chess player.
